1. SCOPE: The Ministry of Hospitality operates in the area of greeting Mass attendees, welcoming new parishioners and providing for the services of ushers. 2. PURPOSE: The purpose of the Ministry of Hospitality is to: i) Greet Mass attendees and distribute Parish Bulletins before weekend and holyday Masses. ii) Welcome new parishioners and acquaint them with the activities of the Parish, and iii) Establish a cadre of ushers who will perform the functions listed below. 3. FUNCTIONS: a) Greeters, stationed at the various entryways of the church, shall warmly greet Mass attendees and provide them with copies of the parish bulletin. They shall also informally converse with parishioners leaving church after Mass. Their main function is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere as preparation for celebrating the Sacred Liturgy b) The Welcoming Committee shall obtain the names of new parishioners who have registered with the parish and arrange to meet informally with them to welcome them to the parish and to acquaint them with the activities of the parish. c) Ushers shall also act as greeters, insure that attendees are adequately seated, facilitate the offertory collections, and provide parishioners with a warm exit greeting. 4. ORGANIZATION & MEMBERSHIP: The Ministry consists of volunteers who are appointed by the Pastor. Usually four (4) ushers are assigned to each week-end and holiday Mass and are lead by a "Captain." The Ministry Chairperson establishes schedules for attendance at masses and other liturgical functions. If an usher or greeter is unable to serve in accordance with the schedule, he/she is responsible for obtaining a substitute. Usher and greeters are provided with name badges and/or medallions. Ushers, if possible, should be seated together. It is suggested that male ushers wear jackets so that their position/function may be more easily identified. 5. SCHEDULE: The mass schedule is as published in the parish bulletin. Training and information meetings are scheduled on an "as required" basis. 6. COMMITTEE COSTS AND OTHER PARISH GROUP RELATIONSHIPS: Identification badges are provided by the parish staff. There are no other costs associated with the operations of the Ministry. It operates closely with the Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers but only rarely with other parish committees.
